Mining began in 1903, and the village of Cullinan, north of Pretoria was established In order to commemorate and celebrate the Centenary of Cullinan, and the Premier Mine’s mining operations the South African Mint struck a 1 ounce (1oz) mintmark Krugerrand The 2003 mintmark Cullinan Centenary Krugerrand Launch coins are the first coins ever to be minted 645 feet underground in a diamond mine.
